Serviced by three large elevators, the five story building
is fully accessible. All elevators have braille as well as tones and light
signals and a hands free elevator emergency phone. The hallways are extra
wide and lined with sturdy handrails. The main entry doors are automatic,
so there are no doors to manually open or close. Inwood House also offers
a keyless entry card system for residents who desire a hands free means
to gain entrance to the building.
Situated
on 3.5 acres, the grounds have ample sidewalks, curb cuts and patios.
The off-street parking area has numerous designated handicapped parking
spaces. In addition, there is an accessible walkway for residents to walk
their dogs. Woodhaven Park, located in the front of the building, features
exercise equipment for persons who use wheelchairs and is surrounded by
beautiful perennial gardens. The large back patio has two barbecue grills
and picnic tables for gatherings. The east side of the building boasts
raised garden beds. These beds bring the gardening area up to a more accessible
height for those residents who use wheelchairs. In season, the gardens
are brimming with vegetables which are harvested by the residents. An
accessible wooden "boardwalk" is also located in the garden
area and is surrounded by a variety of flowers, including a rose garden.
